Smart Watches: Where are they headed?

Image
Smart Watches: Where are they headed? In the image above, we see footballer Jordan Henderson wearing both a smartwatch and an analogue watch. Will this be the new trend? Where is the world of Smartwatches headed? Many believe that eventually "Hybrid" watches will dominate the world, which are a mixture between a classical watch and a smartwatch. Others believe that Smartwatches will never be timeless as classical watches are. This is because of its chances of being outdated very quickly removing the emotional connection a wearer experiences towards an analogue watch. Wherever this field is headed, it is a very interesting world to keep an eye on, as it is dominating the world. Citations Burton, S. D. (2019, March 21). Smart Watches: Any Downsides?

Image
Smartwatches: Any Downsides? Even though smartwatches are useful for everyday life, they do have some disadvantages. These include the following; Limited battery life - Due to size constraint, manufacturers are forced to include small batteries with low battery life. Inaccurate data - Some sensors integrated may not be very accurate, but producers are working on improving this aspect. Very small screen - Obviously a wristwatch is wrist-sized, and thus the smartwatch's screen has to be small. Gets outdated easily - Due to new technologies being developed yearly, and big companies' marketing strategies, smartwatches could become outdated very early after purchase. Expensive to repair - Spare parts for smartwatches are rare, and repair at authentic stores are as expensive as a new watch; therefore, they do present some disadvantages. Benefits of Smart Watches As a daily user of the AppleWatch, I find it very useful as it simplifies my everyday life in several ways. 1) Keeps my phone pickups to a minimum When my phone is in my pocket or charging, the watch's notifications feature alerts me of all incoming messages before picking up my phone and waste time on useless alerts. 2) Tracks my daily activity The smartwatch has a heart rate monitor and an accelerometer integrated into it, which makes it a device to track calorie count, distance traveled daily and heart rate. 3) Allows me to answer quick calls The smartwatch allows the user to have phone calls on speaker without the use of your phone. Then in 2003, Bill Gates rode the wave of smartwatches and partnered with big watch companies to create stereotype watches as the one shown in the image below.  Apple eventually entered this world to conquer it in 2015, and its impact has affected the world of watches and technology forever. Smart Watches: A Gadget to Stand the Test of Time or Mere Trend?

Image
Smart watches: An Overview After the Apple Watch surpassed the likes of Rolex, Fossil, Omega, and Cartier in terms of watch sales, it has been evident since their rise in 2015 that the smartwatch is a device as important as a smartphone in the world we live in today. This is essentially why smartwatches need to be a part of our conversation in the tech world and the empire of watches. Many big companies such as Fossil have suffered immense losses due to the rise of smartwatches.  Many argue that this phenomenon is a trend that will die in a few years; however, the classical watch companies such as TAG Heuer and Swatch are shifting their focus into developing their own smartwatch in order to stay in the game.
